You were shooting correctly with the rifle, even though the bullets were impacting low. At that distance, there is something called "hold over" that you would need to account for (not something a beginner is expected to account for). Most rifles of that type are sighted in at 50 or 100 yards. Since you were shooting so close, the bullet didn't have enough distance to rise to meet where the red dot was positioned on the target. Explained another way, imagine there is a line that comes from your eye through the red dot, to the target. Where that line intersects the target is called your point of aim. Now imagine another line traveling down the length of the barrel and impacting the target. Where that line interests the target is called your point of impact. At 50 yards (or whatever the gun is sighted to), the point of aim and the point of impact meet on the target (they also meet again at around 200 yards when sighted in at 50 yards). Any distance shorter than 50 yards, the point of impact is lower than the point of aim because the optic is sitting above the barrel (called "height over bore"). At that short distance, the bullet has not risen enough to meet the point of aim, so the bullets will impact low. For experienced shooters, you have to find your hold over (and hold under) when shooting close (or far) so that you know where to aim on the target for the bullets to impact where you want.

as both a US Army veteran and an American it makes me happy to see people lean too shoot, now with that said never be afraid to try "bigger guns" go for the .45, .223, 308, remember millions of people think they hurt to shoot but trust me unless you are receiving the round the kickback is nothing to worry about as long as you have control of the weapon. hope you had a blast!

I worked at a shooting range for many years and we had tourist from all over the world come in because they wanted to shoot a gun. Those that were from the UK would openly lament the restrictive gun laws and warn us to no let it happen here. As a person who was born in the UK, day one I landed at JFK I was in awe. I can say with absolute confidence that I would never trade the liberties and freedoms of the US to go back to England.

You Brits are so strange. What are you doing, just taking one bit and acting like you can't just dig in. They say Brit are restrained and this is an example of it. When you have never done something before, it can be quite difficult to even consider doing it. I am proud of both of you for taking it very seriously and not treat it as if the weapons were toys. I'm glad you went to an indoor range where I am positive they made you sit through a short safety training session. Both of you were very safety conscious and didn't accidentally point the weapons at each other by mistake. I have seen that happen when someone is new to handling firearms. You chose great weapons to learn with, as both the .22LR pistol and the AR are very forgiving and they are both easy on the shooter. My only suggestion would be to have someone with experience shooting which every platforms you choose to shoot the next time you go to the range. Someone with experience can teach you how to hold the weapon and help calm your nerves when first picking up your firearm. I hope that if you come to Georgia I will see you on the range! Prost!

Smooth vs crunchy is a big debate. Personally, I like both. I also prefer jam or preserves over jelly :) Peanut butter and a drizzle of honey is quite nice, too!!

When you are pulling the slide back to chamber a round from the magazine, pull the slide back all the way and then LET IT GO! Let the recoil spring provide the push; don't ride it with your hand. Have solid knowledge of how to line up your sights before you ever put a live cartridge in the gun. It's no fun at all when your first few shots hit absolutely nothing. It's actually easier and safer to start learning with a .22LR REVOLVER. Just two cents from an old American who has been shooting handguns for about 60 years.

A lot of those mail boxes are gone now. Most suburbs went to a central box system that you use a key to open your assigned box. It's still super easy, and you can send out mail in the outgoing box that is collected every day by the mail person.

We don't call Jello, jam. Jello and jam have nothing to do with each other. Jelly has no fruit pieces in it, Jam has fruit pieces in it and preserves have large chunks in it. If someone asks me if I want jelly or jam, I know right away if I want it smooth or clumpy.
